Online Journal of Space Communication
Space Systems Tutorial (Fall 2006)
From the Editor
In January 2006, Auburn University launched a continuing education lecture series in DVD format that was targeted to satellite and space professionals. Auburn's SPCE Program consisted of a series of video tutorials by respected university professors in several academic fields. The content of these presentations covered some of the fundamental principles of the global satellite industry and discussed several major satellite applications and services.
With permission of Auburn University, and the Society of Satellite Professionals International who sponsored the series, these lectures are now being made available as a public service via the Online Journal of Space Communication.
This special issue of the Journal is divided into five parts, with the individual lectures noted in the Contents column to the right:
Basics of Satellite Communication
Fixed Satellite Systems
Satellite Communication Services
Space Remote Sensing Systems
Foundations in Space Marketing
The Journal wishes to thank the faculty presenters for allowing us to make their lectures accessible to all interested persons on the open Internet.
Dr. Joseph N. Pelton, Director, Space and Advanced Communications Research Institute, George Washington University
Dr. Don Flournoy, Director, Institute for Telecommunications Studies, Ohio University
Dr. Scott Madry, Associate Professor of Anthropology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Dr. Daniel Butler, Thomas Walter Professor of Technology Management and Marketing, Auburn University
Each computer-based course in the SPCE program provides 4-6 hours of lectures and coursework that makes it simple for professionals, working at their own pace, to acquire new skills and understanding.
If you would like to receive a set of the DVDs, the materials that accompany the courses, and a certificate of completion (including Continuing Education Units) from Auburn University's College of Engineering based on a schedule of testing that lets students demonstrate their proficiency, please go to this link: http://eng.auburn.edu/distance-learning/ce/live/spce/index.html or contact:
