Abstract
Fixed Satellite Services: Beginning with the global roll out of Hughes Network Systems and GE Spacenet data networks in the 1990s, Very Small Aperture Satellite Terminals (VSATs/USATs) emerged as major innovations in satellite services. In these lectures, VSAT applications and related business services are examined from historical, technological, economic, regulatory and consumer perspectives.
With the development of the DirecPC and DirecWay Internet delivery systems in the 1990s, and many follow-on innovations appearing in the new millennium, Internet Protocol via Satellite (IP-Sat) services in interactive broadband format, can now be delivered almost anywhere on the planet. Here, IP-Satellite applications and related businesses are examined from historical, technological, economic, regulatory and consumer perspectives.
