Abstract
Broadcast Satellite Services: With the advent in 1994 of more powerful space platforms targeting smaller fixed earth terminals offering multiple digital channels of popular programming, Direct to Home (DBS/DSS) satellite broadcasting emerged as one of the space industry's most successful sectors. In these lectures, DBS applications and related businesses are examined from historical, technological, economic, regulatory and consumer perspectives.
With the launch of WorldSpace in 1998 and 2000, XM Satellite Radio in 2001 and Sirius Satellite Radio in 2002, Digital Audio Radio Services (DAB/DARS) emerged as a major innovation in satellite services. Here, DAB/DARS applications and related businesses are examined from historical, technological, economic, regulatory and consumer perspectives.
