Factors that Influenced Attrition of Public School Teachers in the USA and Ghana.
Abstract
Teacher attrition is a global issue that affects the quality of education. The education sector continues to experience attrition of trained teachers hence creating a shortage in teacher supply in public K-12 education in both the United State and Ghana. Teachers are one of the most important professional groups in every country's development domain hence there is a need to intensify efforts directed toward retaining qualified and experienced members. Teachers train and nurture the youths of the nation to realize their full potential and to become productive citizens (Agezo, 2010). Globally, teacher attrition is estimated to be 30% for persons with three years or less of work experience (Hopkins et al., 2019). Teacher shortage in public schools at the pre-tertiary levels of education has increased in recent times due to high records of teacher attrition in the USA compared to teachers in other countries (Garcia et al., 2022).
